Cynthia Lou Smelker

September 11, 1954 - October 7, 2023

Cynthia Lou Smelker, 69, of Beaumont died Saturday, October 7, 2023. She was born on September 11, 1954, to Louella and Benjamin Smelker. Cynthia attended public schools in Beaumont, graduating Cum Laude from Forest Park Highschool in 1972. She furthered her education at Lamar University with a Bachelor of Arts and Master Arts in English literature. She was active in several service organizations and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.

Cynthia was a longtime member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. She was an insurance adjuster in Houston. Cynthia also worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Coastal Pools. She was a prolific reader. Cynthia enjoyed playing games and watching gameshows. She was a well-known animal lover of both cats and dogs. Cynthia will be remembered for her brilliant mind, keen wit, and sense of humor.

Survivors include her relatives, Gail Meaux of Crystal Beach and Gail and Eric Shaw of Nederland; lifelong friends, Steve and Melisa Peyton of Beaumont; Cecelia Crittenden of Beaumont; Vivian Hulsopple of Beaumont; Velma Keirns of Beaumont; Steve and Becky Hutchison of Beaumont; and Patty Beard of Beaumont; and Martha Allen of Beaumont; many other loving relatives and friends.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service for Ms. Smelker will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in the Serenity Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements for handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

    I went to school with Cynthia at Forest Park here in Beaumont. I didn’t know her extremely well but we did have several classes together. She was a really nice and sweet gal who was usually on the quiet side.
