Sadie Lee Adams

April 18, 1934 - November 3, 2023

Sadie Adams, of Silsbee, passed away on November 3, 2023, in Jasper.  She was born on April 18, 1934, in Woodville, to the late Rev. Craig P. Fortenberry and Viola Chambliss Fortenberry.

After graduating high school, Sadie moved to Jasper, and lived with her bonus parents, Frank and Opal Calloway, along with bonus brothers, Raymond Calloway and Joe Frank Calloway, who graciously opened their home to her. Sadie met Opal Calloway while both were employed with Dr. Joe Wesley Dickerson at Mary Dickerson Memorial Hospital.  She retired after working with Dr. Dickerson for 54 years.  Sadie moved to Silsbee in 1962 and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Sadie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Noel Adams; her parents; brothers, R.E. Fortenberry and wife, Callie; O.C. Fortenberry; Thurston Fortenberry and wife, Juanita; Pete Fortenberry and wife, Verna; sisters, Wilra and husband, Eldon Brisben, and Hattie Jewel Breazeale and husband, Emmett.

Sadie will be greatly missed and is survived by daughters, Glenda Graves and husband, Robert, of Jasper, and Kay Hickman and husband, Milan, of Silsbee; grandchildren, Craig Vaughn and wife, Leslie, and Corey Vaughn, all of Austin; Gregory Graves of Silsbee; Andrew Graves of Beaumont; and Laura Graves of Silsbee; and great-grandchildren, Bryn, Blake, Emily, Skyler and Jacob.,

Sadie’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Lois Jenkins, Carrie Richard, and the staff at Timberidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their gracious care and kindness.

A graveside service for Mrs. Adams will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Campground Cemetery, FM 256, Woodville, under the direction of Broussard’s, ­­­­490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sadie’s honor to Susan G. Komen for the Cure at www.komen.org.
