Courtlon David Rivette

September 18, 1930 - November 18, 2023

Courtlon David Rivette, 93, of Beaumont, died Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Brookdale Dowlen Oaks, Beaumont. He was born on September 18, 1930, to Fannie Mae Trahan Rivette and Courtlon Joseph Rivette, in Beaumont.

David dedicated his life to not only working but also serving the public. While in high school he was a paperboy and shortly after graduating from high school, his first opportunity to serve was the National Guard from 1950-1953. David seemed to always be involved in something, even though his main source of income was working for Mobil Oil in the safety department where he retired in 1985. While working for Mobil Oil, he started driving an ambulance for Carroll Wallace Funeral Home off Calder Avenue and became friends with many of the funeral homes around the Beaumont area. While driving the ambulance, he met a nurse name JoAnn Marie Pickard that would later become his wife of over 50 years. After retiring from Mobil Oil, he started a new business adventure he called R & S Transport. This business was a direct result of his friendships he gained via the ambulance driving and going to these different funeral homes. This business was transporting deceased around the states of Texas and Louisiana. He continued to run this business for almost the next 30 years until he decided to dissolve it and finally retire.

David had plenty of hobbies throughout his 93 years. He had a couple that he was more passionate about than the others. The first and the one he loved most was bowling. He first started to love bowling when he became a pin setter for a bowling alley that was on Calder Avenue. As he got older, he became more involved in bowling and was appointed the secretary for the Beaumont Bowling Association. In 1966, he took his dad, Courtlon Jerome Rivette, to the American Bowling Congress National Championship and that’s when his love for bowling really took off. In 1967, him and his dad completed their first tournament and one of his proudest moments in his bowling career was that he completed 40 consecutive years (1966-2006) going to this tournament. His love of bowling even filtered down throughout a couple generations with the family. He brought his brother, Donald, son, Timothy and nephew, Charles into the fold to love the game.

When his wife of 50 years passed away, he moved into an assisted living facility named Brookdale on Dowlen Road. Once he settled, he began to make friends and plenty of memories. One of his favorite things to do was play bingo and spend hours outside feeding the birds. He would buy bird seed religiously to feed “his” birds. He was also a lifetime member of our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church where he was an usher and participated in various activities through his lifetime.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn Rivette; and brother, Donald C. Rivette.

A Rosary for Mr. Rivette will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of his family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Tim and family
I remember your family from South Park so many years ago.
Our moms were all doing things for us kids,
    while dads worked mostly.
So sorry to hear about your dad.
He is resting in heaven with many great people.
    My prayers are with you

    Tim and family,
I was a long time member of Assumption Church (43 years) before moving to Houston in 2010. I don’t really have a memory of being at the church and not seeing your dad at the church. He definitely had a passion for service and giving back. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Donna Carol Stephenson says:

My condolences to the family. I was a friend of David’s for 12 years at Brookdale. We spent many times together at bingo, taking rides, eating out and watching channel 66. He was a little rough on the outside but had a good and generous heart. I am so very sad I will not be able to say goodbye, but we played his last game of bingo together and had a good long talk and cake the day before. Goodbye my friend, I couldn’t get a ride to your service…I will miss our long friendship and many outings together. Love, Donna Stephenson
