James Edward Carl

James Edward Carl, 90, of Nederland, died Monday, December 11, 2023. He was born on December 18, 1932, in Camden, Texas, to Estelle and Robert Carl.

In James’ younger days, he liked to spend his time hunting and fishing. After retiring from Texaco after 35 years, he enjoyed helping people in his community when they needed a little help with repairs. He served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church, Nederland. One of his favorite things to do was to travel with his wife, Barbara. Although he enjoyed his many activities, his love for his family outshined them all.

Survivors include his daughter, Myra Hanson and her husband, Chuck, of Beaumont; grandsons, Curtis Hanson, of Groves, and Waylon Carl and his wife, Antoinette, of Rio Dell, California; granddaughter, Kayla Hanson, of Beaumont; great-grandson, Dwight Carl, of Rio Dell, California; sister, Eunice Vinson, of Chester; sister-in-law, Gay Carl, of Woodville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Barbara Sue Carl; son, Steve Carl; grandson, Daniel Hanson; sisters, Joyce Best, Reda Chandler, Laura Ann Atkinson; and brother, Robert Carl, Jr.

A gathering of Mr. Carl’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 1911 Nederland Avenue, Nederland, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His internment will follow at the Homer Cemetery, Colmesneil.
