Mona Hogan

October 29, 1972 - December 31, 2023

Mona Hogan, 51, of Nome, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was born October 29,1972, to Linda Kolander Hogan and John Richard Hogan. Mona attended Hardin-Jefferson schools and remained close with many of her classmates over the years. All who knew Mona agree that her smile could light up any room, and her kindness to others showed no bounds. She had a successful career in the steel industry. Mona worked for Commercial Metals Company for 23 years, where she served as Shipping Coordinator and Inventory Control Specialist. Mona was well loved and respected in this industry and developed lifelong friendships through her work.

In Mona’s free time, she loved to spend a day at the beach, the pond, or anywhere water was present. Mona often said she felt complete peace when she was at the beach. She also enjoyed traveling to the Texas Hill Country and admiring the beauty God created there.

Mona’s true passion was formed in the kitchen. She worked in the restaurant industry as a teen and young adult. She expressed her love and affection for those she cared for most by cooking for them or sharing a special recipe with them. Mona spent time searching for new recipes she wanted to try, and was in the process of creating a recipe book of her most loved dishes. Some of Mona’s favorite memories were of time spent cooking with her mom, her Granny, and her best friend, Nissa.

Mona truly valued her relationships with those she loved. She often spoke of the importance of her “tribe of girlfriends.” These friends were a part of Mona’s life for over 34 years. She loved each of them and cherished the time they spent together. Mona had a very strong love for her family, as well. Her sister, aunt, uncle, and cousins were so important to her. The last year of her life was very difficult after the loss of her parents, whom she treasured dearly. There was not a day that passed that she did not mention the sorrow she felt by the loss of her mom and dad.

Mona overcame things in life many are not able to get through. She succeeded with more than 2 years of sobriety from alcohol addiction. This was an achievement of great meaning and importance which she celebrated with much joy and pride. Through her recovery, she deepened her faith and love for God. She often doodled the verse Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Mona truly faced her final days without fear and lived by the words she read each day.

Mona is preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents, Susie and Otto Kolander and Albert and Margie Hogan. She is survived by her sister, Rachel Cretsinger of Troy, Michigan; aunt and uncle, Sheila and David Studdert of Nome, Texas; cousins, Kari Studdert and Aiden Minton, Angie, Trey, Emma, and Ella Alvey; her Good Vibe Tribe of forever friends, Nissa, Paige, Rayanna, Shelley, Brandi, and Brenda; and special loved ones, Jason, Sarah, and Nate.

I got to know Mona through her years of friendship with My Daughter and her other friends. She had a very rough journey, and she overcame so many obstacles. Everyone is so proud of her overcoming those obstacles. Not everyone can do that. I know she’s resting in peace, healed-and whole again, in the loving arms of our Lord.
