Julia Iona Goines Winger

July 21, 1953 - January 8, 2024

Julia Iona Goines Winger, 70, was called home to be with her Lord on January 8, 2024.  Julia was born July 21, 1953, to Oscar Goines and Alice Imogene Comte Goines in Fort Riley, Kansas, while Oscar was stationed there during the Korean War. The family moved to Lufkin after Oscar was discharged from the Army. After a few years in Lufkin, then Bryan-College Station, Julia moved with her family to Beaumont, Texas, where she lived the remainder of her life. She attended school at Pietzsch Elementary, McArthur Junior High, and graduated from South Park High School in 1971. She attended SFA University for a brief time before returning home to Beaumont.  She married Thomas Winger in 1976. Their marriage brought a lovely baby girl into the world in 1988 named Regina. Julia was sweet soul who loved the Lord, her family and others that entered her life. She loved music and learned to play the piano.  Julia also had a lovely voice, singing in the school and church choirs. Julia became a born-again Christian at South Park Baptist Church in her youth and hoped that everyone around her could see that aspect of her life. She was fierce in fighting Parkinson’s disease which attacked her body many years ago.  She woke up every day with the intention of living the life God had given her. Her hope would be that everyone would join her in heaven one day.

She later attended Wesley United Methodist Church before her decline in health all but prevented her attendance.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Winger; her parents, Oscar and Imogene Goines; and her husband’s parents, Melvin and Mignon Winger.

Survivors include her daughter, Regina Winger; brother, Lyle Goines and his wife, Tammy of Beaumont; nephew, Micah Goines of Columbus, Mississippi; niece, Hannah Goines Baldwin and her husband, Ben, of Beaumont; and one great-nephew, Tyler Baldwin.

The family would like to thank her Pelican Bay Assisted Living Family for their amazing help over the last 5 years. They also want to thank the nurses and staff at College Street Health Care Center for their care and patience over the last 4 months.

A gathering of Julia’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. We met Julia, her husband Tom, and daughter Regina through Masonic Lodge functions and social gatherings. Julia was always smiling and eternally happy. When things were busy it was a pleasure to watch Julia, always calm and positive. She appreciated the little things in life.

Julia and I were classmates at McArthur Middle School. She was a good friend to me not to mention being very smart. If it weren’t for her help in English, I would have had to repeat the 8th grade. She was kind, sweet and will be truly missed. My deepest condolences to the family.

    Lyle Goines says:

Thank you for the kind words. She will be missed greatly by our family.

Oh my dear dear friend, I can’t believe you are gone. We served together as Worthy Matrons and had such fun. We traveled to Grand Chapter in Arlington and had fun. You always called me to see how I was and to let me know the latest happenings. Oh sweet Julia, there is now a empty spot in my heart dear friend and one that can’t be filled. You have joined Tom in heaven and I know he is thrilled to have you by his side again.

    Lyle Goines says:

Thank you Tammi. Julia loved those meetings and the fellowship with her fellow Eastern Star friends.
