James “Jimmy” Leo Cole, Sr.

July 27, 1937 - March 18, 2024

James “Jimmy” Leo Cole, Sr., 86, of LaBelle, died Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born July 27, 1937, in Picayune, Mississippi, to Violet Bertha Cole and Ernest Samuel Cole.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fannett, and a member of the Knights of Columbus CO 6763 also in Fannett. Working in construction all his life, he was a Master Plumber, a carpenter, and a craftsman of many trades. He utilized his talents in building homes for low-income families through a project of Savannah Housing.

He was always a devoted family man and a man of faith; dedicated to his “favorite lady,” Mary, Mother of God. He taught his children the importance of putting forth their best effort in life and their vocation. He loved the outdoors and took his family on frequent hunting trips which continued on with his grandchildren.  He was a simple man, but strong who showed his love by his actions.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Linda; his daughters, Tammy Hammock and husband, Don, of Nederland, and Yvette, of LaBelle; sons, Jimmy Jr., of Nederland, Stephen and wife, Donna, and Ronnie, of Groves; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Hosey and Betty Noble; brothers, David and wife, Sondra, all of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Ernie, and wife, Kathleen, of Wimberly, Texas.

Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Vivian Blanchard; brothers, Vern, Donald, Gene, and Benny Cole; and two granddaughters.

A gathering of his family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Road, Fannett. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
