Jeanette Caudillo, 81, of Houston, formerly of Beaumont, died on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Jeanette was born on October 3, 1942, in Rayne, Louisiana.  She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1961.  After graduation, she worked as an optical technician for Texas State Optical (TSO) Laboratory for 30 years.  After leaving TSO, Jeanette received a Medical Office Skills Certificate from Lamar University. She utilized her new skills to start a second career at Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where she worked as a Cash Posting Clerk for 10 years, until she officially retired in 2003.

In 1971, Jeanette married her loving husband, John Gilbert “Click” Caudillo.  They were blessed with two boys, Ramon and Larry.  Jeanette was very proud of her sons, always encouraging them to work hard in school, athletics and extracurricular activities.

Jeanette was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Cathedral Basilica.  She dedicated many years to the church as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Cathedral Ladies.  She believed in the value of a Catholic education.  Both of her sons attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School and were altar servers from 2nd grade through the end of high school.

Jeanette’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith and love to others.  She always answered the call to help those in need and filled the role of mother to many beyond her two sons.

Jeanette is survived by her son, Larry Caudillo; daughter-in-law, Joanna Caudillo; grandsons, Anthony and Matthew Caudillo; and granddaughter, Isabella Caudillo, all of Houston; and 22 nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Gilbert “Click” Caudillo; her son, Ramon Caudillo; her parents, Sylvain and Aurelia Sonnier; her brothers, Charles and Nelson Sonnier; and sister, Juanita Sonnier.

    Mavis Fore says:

I met Jeanette around 1995 or 1996 at a meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas when they were still meeting at Assumption Catholic Church in Beaumont. Jeanette was a very active member and officer of this international Catholic women’s charitable/service organization. She enjoyed serving as the recording secretary of Court St. Rita for several years.

It was always a pleasure to talk to her and call her my friend. We also saw each other many times after I started working in the office at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. She was a very sweet lady. May she rest in peace and the light of Christ shine upon her always.

    Sincerely, Mavis Fore
