Nancy Jane Watson Cannon

September 30, 1936 - May 28, 2024

Nancy Jane Watson Cannon, 87, left her earthly life on Monday, May 28, 2024. She was born on September 30, 1936, to Helen and Lanos A. Watson in Beaumont, Texas. She was raised alongside her beloved older sister, Patsy, who preceded her in death. Nancy graduated from South Park High School in 1955, and she remained close to her friends, the “Greenie Girls,” her whole life.

Nancy met her true love, William “Billy” Cannon, and they married in 1957. They went on to have two children, Charlene and Brian. Nancy worked as a secretary in the medical field. Nancy and Bill were thrilled to later have 3 grandchildren, Haley, Grayson, and Parker. They were devoted grandparents, babysitting often, and never missing a ball game, recital, or performance.

Nancy and Bill loved to take road trips, both long and short. Their traveling companions were often Bill’s brother and his wife, Coochie and Barbara. There was also a quite memorable trip where Haley and Grayson were taken to Washington DC and New York City. The whole family enjoyed wonderful Christmas shopping weekends in Houston.

Bill and Brian both passed away in 2018, and Nancy never quite recovered from this. Charlene and her family did their best to fill her hours and days with happiness. The three great-granddaughters added fun and lots of activities.

Nancy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved to be surrounded by her family and we will dearly miss her at future gatherings. Special love to her faithful friends, Betty Potter and Joy Graham, and new dear friend, Judi Wilson. And love to all the Greenie Girls!

Surviving Nancy is her daughter, Charlene Cannon Meek (Steve); grandchildren, Haley Meek Strahan (Ben); Grayson Meek; and Parker Meek; great-grandchildren, Phoebe Jane Strahan, Susannah Strahan, and Genevieve Strahan; sisters-in-law, Barbara Cannon and Carolyn Owers; as well as several nieces and a nephew.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Trinity Choir, P.O. Box 5247, Beaumont, Texas  77726-5247.
