Larry “Buddy” Lewis

October 11, 1940 - May 31, 2024

Larry Lamar Lewis, 83, of Beaumont, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 at home after a brief illness. He was born on October 11, 1940 in Beaumont, Texas to Edna Mott Lewis and Sam Lewis.

Larry was a lifelong resident of Southeast Texas. He graduated from French High School in 1959 and worked primarily for Crown Zellerbach, James River Corp., and eventually Printpack, Inc. as a supervisor and shift foreman. In 1967, Larry married Sharon Kennedy, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage and life together.

Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing, but mostly he loved spending time with his family over a pot of gumbo or a kitchen full of kibbeh, tabbouleh, stuffed grape leaves, and stuffed squash, as he loved the Lebanese food he grew up on. He loved a good laugh, and he could talk to anyone. He had a way with feral things, and kids and animals were especially fond of Larry. He enjoyed the sounds of Delbert McClinton, Hall & Oates, Steve Winwood and other artists, and liked to cut a rug in the living room when the mood struck. He loved big, and he was tremendously proud of his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Larry Wymelle Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Anita Lewis; his daughter, Rachel Wilson and her husband, Tracy D. Wilson, grandchildren, Kimberly Wilson, and her wife, Ali Wilson, and Kevin Wilson, and great-granddaughter, Kayley Wilson; his daughter, Alicia Hall and her husband, Michael Hall and grandchildren, Peyton Hall and Katelyn Hall. We loved Larry so much. From the time he was my foreman in 1882-1993. He was always fun, didn’t let anyone ruffle his feathers, & loved to cut up. When dad retired & they started hunting, & hanging out, they really enjoyed life!! Go rest high on that mountain. Until we see you again!

We have lost a great friend and an all-around fine person. A friend for over 60 years and a classmate who will never be forgotten. In a way not many of us would remember but Larry would say, “knowing that” when he agreed with something.
