Ronald “Ronnie” Earl Smith, Sr.

November 19, 1945 - June 21, 2024

Ronald “Ronnie” Earl Smith, Sr., 78, of Lumberton died Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born on November 19, 1945, in Fairhope, Alabama, to Cleo Boutwell Smith and George RT Smith.

Ronnie was the owner and operator of Ronnie’s Garage. There was nothing he couldn’t work on. Engine to transmission- he was your man.

He married the love of his life, Linda Smith, at a very young age and they were inseparable. She stole his heart from day one. He loved his family with his whole heart and especially those grandkids and great-grandkids. When he wasn’t working at the shop, he would be fishing and hunting. He will be deeply missed by everyone’s heart he touched.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Young and her husband, Alan, of Kountze; and Ronnie Smith, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Samantha Franks and her husband, Dru, of Lumberton; Jesse Young of Lumberton; Walter Ty Young of Kountze; Josh Young and his wife, Miranda, of Lumberton; Meghan Young of Lumberton; Hunter Smith of Pensacola, Florida; and Landen Smith of Pensacola, Florida; great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Ryker, Jayke, Hunter, Dylan, Bailey, Blake, Joey, Brady, Jaxton, and Nova; siblings, Richard Eugene Smith of Jasper; Carolyn Hall of Pensacola, Florida; Diane Downs and her husband, Larry, of Pensacola, Florida; and Mary Wistner and her husband, Phil, of Vidor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Cleo and George Smith; and wife, Linda Smith.

A gathering of Ronnie’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

    Ronnie will be greatly missed by our family. He was an immeasurable force in our daughter in law Samantha’s life (his grandaughter) and the two share an uncommonly fierce bond.     I’m so sad to hear of your loss. Ronnie was truly an inspiration to me especially as a mentor in the automotive industry back in the early eighties. I know he had overcome some overwhelming health issues as well as life losses, but that never showed the many times I saw him. He is a counted friend and business associate. May his family be inspired by the legacy he has left you. You are in my prayers.
