Robert Falgout

February 10, 1938 - March 12, 2018

Robert Jones Falgout, 80, of Nederland, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. He was born on March 10, 1938, in Abbeville, Louisiana, to Goldie Arpin Falgout and Stanley Falgout.

He was a 1956 graduate of Port Neches High School. He played in three consecutive state football championships during his high school years, winning the state championship in 1953 and 1955. His last-second touchdown pass in the 1955 3A state championship game is still considered one of the greatest comeback victories in Texas high school football history. Bobby was an All-District and All-State quarterback for the Indians and attended and played football for Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and Lamar College. While sitting around drinking a beer at the Eagles, friends often jokingly referred to Falgout as being a “household name.” Bobby was also a Veteran of the United States Army, reaching the rank of SP5/E-5, and honorably discharged in 1963. He spent the majority of his professional career as a Lab Technician in the petrochemical industry and was a proud member of the local OCAW union. He was also a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports. Most of all, he loved being a Cajun and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for his sense of humor and his cooking skills. He loved cooking and was well known for his gumbo. Bobby was respected and loved by many and will be truly missed by all of us.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Falgout of Nederland; son, Jay Falgout and his wife, Sherry, of Round Rock; daughter, Kecia Gillum of Dallas and Alicia Placette and her husband, Paul, of Nederland; grandchildren, Broc Placette, Brooke Placette, Noah Falgout, Sofia Falgout, and Gabriel Falgout; sister, Shirley Landry of Port Neches and Wendy Durham of Mauriceville; brothers Scott Falgout of Ripley, Mississippi and Paul Christopher Falgout of Port Neches.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Fay Little.

A celebration of Mr. Falgout’s life will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018, at teh Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2313 Nederland Avenue, Port Neches. A private family committal will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. His cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
