Mozelle Radcliff

October 6, 1926 - April 2, 2018

Mozelle Cook Radcliff, 91, of Beaumont, passed away Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born on October 6, 1926, to Bessie Crenshaw Mitchell and Merrel Thomas “Charlie” Mitchell of Port Acres, Texas. Mozelle was preceded in death by her parents, brother Marshall Byron (Pete) Mitchell, son Louis (Cookie) Cook, Jr; daughter-in-law, Eileen Cook, Louis M (Bud) Cook, Sr. and Dennie Radcliff.

Mozelle graduated from Nederland High School in 1945. She worked for Gulf Oil, Sun Oil, Texaco, Dollinger Steel and Books-A-Million, known as “The Book Lady”, in her 65+ working years. Mozelle was a member of Desk and Derrick – an organization of women in the oil and gas business. She was President in 1967.

Mozelle had a passion for reading and working crossword puzzles in ink. She loved travel that included 42 of the 50 states, cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico, Panama, and the land and ocean cruise to Alaska. Her favorite place was sitting on the deck at Cookie and Eileen’s watching the tug boats.

Survivors are her daughter, Sandra (Sandy) Cook Bowen and husband, Billy Bowen, of Brenham, Texas; sisters, Ruby Daniels of Royce City; Milda (Dinky) Saeler of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Frances Kay Alexander and her husband, Ronnie, of Beaumont; and brother, Merrel Thomas (Sonny) Mitchell and his wife, Zelma, of Colmesneil; five grandchildren, Stephanie Cook and Christina Cook of Nederland; Alana Robinson and her husband, Wade; Robby Odom, Shannon Odom and his wife, Jeri; and Jarred Odom and his wife, Leyanna, all of Vidor; eleven great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mrs. Radcliff’s family and friends will be from 6:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

I remember pleasant conversations with Mrs. Radcliff when she worked at Books-A-Million. I shopped there with some regularity, and she was an asset to the store.
