Michael W. Knox
Michael W. Knox, 75, of Beaumont, Texas, died Friday, February 1, 2019, in Houston, Texas. He was born on January 5, 1944, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He retired from Mobil Oil after 28 years as a Chemical Engineer after graduating from Texas A&M University in 1966. He was a member of Meadows Church of Christ in Beaumont. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
As his son would say, “Mike would give you the shirt off his back…THEN tell you how to put it on”!
Mike is survived by the love of his life and wife of fifty-three years, Barbara; son, Jason Knox and his wife, Amy; grandsons, Colby and Caden; granddaughter, Rainey; and great-granddaughter, Margaret Jane all of Beaumont; brothers, James Knox and his wife, Molly, of Atlanta, Texas and John Knox and his wife, Sue, of Jeffersonton, Virginia; mother-in-law, Wilodene Wilbanks; sisters-in-law, Jerri Scott and her husband, Gene, of Allen, Texas; and Kathy O’Kelley of Atlanta, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Olean Knox.
A gathering of Mr. Knox’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A private family graveside will be held at Cass Cemetery, Bloomburg. An additional gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Hanner Funeral Home, 103 West Main Street, Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to Meadows Church of Christ, 9195 Dishman Road, Beaumont, Texas 77713; or the Cass Cemetery Fund, c/o George Waller, 1278 Farm to Market North, Atlanta, Texas 75551.

Mike and Barbara made a huge impression on my life when I was very young , I just felt like they were special. Mike and Barbara regularly visited my family and always made us feel loved and special. I would tell my Mom & Dad they are always so kind to us. As a young girl I didn’t realize that they were so kind and loving because they were then and still are today faithful Christians. I did not figure that part out until I grew up and became a Christian and learned Scriptures that tell us how God wants us to love others. It was then that I understood what I saw in Mike and Barbara was The Spirit Of Christ living thru them. I know that Mike went to Heaven with Jesus and I know Our Lord said to him Well done my good and faithful servant. Personally my heart aches because of his earthly death, but he is walking the streets of gold and I am quite sure he is inviting everyone to come over to eat and fellowship in the mansion God prepared for him.. Barbara, I'm so sorry for your loss. I only got to meet you two a little over a year ago when you visited John and Sue here in Virginia. After that there were few weeks that went by that I didn't hear from Mike by phone or email and always talking about the Bible. I knew he had to be a good man to be John Knox's brother. When I heard of his passing I knew without doubt that he was just where he'd lived his life to be. What a gathering that will be one day! Mike will always be in my memory as one of the greatest I have ever known, from the first day while recruiting him in Aggieland , until the last day we got tomatoes from him. Mike was the very epitome of a fine Christian man. We had communicated quite often through the years either by e-mail or telephone. Many times during our conversations he would make it a point to interject something about church or quote some scripture which was quite appropriate. He was a strong positive example of a follower of Christ. He was so proud of his gardening skills and would send pictures on his phone of the "prized fruit" of his labors. He would even send us, through the mail, containers of his delicious figs. He was quite impressed with a new 1951 carnation red ford we bought shortly after we were married and often mentioned it when we visited on the phone. Oh, so many nice memories of Mike and we'll miss getting to talk with him now and then. We're thinking about Mike and family.

It really got to me, hearing about Mr. Knox. He was just a wonderful, booming presence in the lobby of Ridgewood Church of Christ with an uncanny knack for making everyone around him smile. One of my earliest memories from Ridgewood was watching Mr. Knox carry out a sleeping Jason on his shoulder late one evening after service. Jason and I must have been about five or six then, and Jason was wearing these tiny cowboy boots that matched his dad's. I thought that was really cool. My heart goes out to Mrs. Knox, Jason and the family. Mr. Knox may be gone, but he touched so many - may his memories live on and provide comfort.

Mike treated us just like family from our first meeting at Ridgewood in 2004. And when he found out that we, not only knew where Cotter, AR was, but had lived there, we became his "Brother and Sister from Cotter".
