James J. Stevens

James J. Stevens, 82, of Winnie, died Saturday, April 27, 2019, at The Arboretum, Winnie. He was born on February 7, 1937, in Nacogdoches. His adoptive parents were Edith Cooper Stevens and Clifton G. Stevens. James enjoyed spending his time deer hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

Survivors include his son, Mark Stevens and his wife, Carole and daughter, Mary Abshire and her husband, Richard, all of Winnie; sisters, Liz Jenkins of Liberty; Marie Donaldson and Louise McShan, both of Lufkin; brother, Glen McKey and his wife, Connie, of Huntington; grandchildren, Kevin Stevens; Sean Stevens; Brandi Stevens; Ben Abshire and his partner, Nicole Doughty; and Jason Abshire; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Phillips, Hayden Phillips, and Carter Abshire.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Ann Stevens and numerous brothers and sisters.

A gathering of Mr. Stevens’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
