Edgar Massey

February 18, 1956 - December 6, 2019

Edgar Wayne Massey, 63, of Lumberton, died Friday, December 6, 2019. He was born on February 18, 1956, in Oceanside, California, to Iva Jean Pomeroy and Bernard Epp Massey. Edgar worked over thirty years as the senior operator at NRG making electricity for the Houston area.  He retired in 2010 to be with his wife and enjoy the grandchildren.  Edgar had many friends at NRG and was known for his creative ideas and his extensive ability to troubleshoot issues and improve processes.

Whenever Edgar interacted with people, he created close, impactful relationships. If he was in a position to help someone, he would do so, many times without anyone’s knowledge. He was a lifelong learner as Edgar would research a topic if it interested him and share that knowledge. There were many times that he would be troubleshooting a car engine issue over the phone while walking someone else through the process. He also enjoyed flying model airplanes and spent many afternoons flying with friends and family. Edgar was very knowledgeable in firearms and shared that knowledge with many people.

Edgar loved being with his wife, children and grandchildren and shared his pride with most people he met. While the grandchildren would be staying with him, he was continually finding ways to teach them different activities and how to handle life lessons. They found ways to have fun even when he would ask them to “give me a hand with this”. Edgar poured his heart into them and was extremely proud of every single one.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Gross Massey of Lumberton; children, Connie McClellan and her husband, Michael, of Rosharon; Bonnie Massey of League City; Edgar W. Massey, Jr., and his wife, Stephanie Richmond, of Lumberton; Clinton Tully and his wife, Melissa, of Austin; and Ray Gross and his wife, Megan, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Michael Rodriguez, Alissa McClellan, Gabriel Rodriguez, Kayden Massey, Elijah Rodriguez, Avery Massey, and Treyson Massey; and his brother, Thomas Massey and his wife, Jeanette, of Tomball. Edgar is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Massey Williams.

A gathering of Mr. Massey’s family and friends will begin 11:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2019, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His interment will follow at Davis Cemetery, Colmesneil.

I loved communicating with Edgar and his family. He will be missed by his Massey cousins. It is hard to accept that he is gone as he was so vibrant in life.
