Celia Castaneda

Celia Castañeda, 92, of Port Arthur, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018. She was born on August 20, 1926, in Port Arthur, to Laura Mendez Peralez and Daniel Peralez. She graduated from Lamar University with a Master’s Degree in Education. She was a long-time educator until she retired from Port Arthur ISD.

Survivors include her husband, Anselmo Castañeda of Port Arthur; sons, Ricardo Ramos and his wife, Anna, of The Woodlands, and James R. Acosta, Jr. of Waco; daughters, Camilla Richard and her husband, Rick, of Bridge City; Claudia Acosta and her husband, Terrance Adamson, of Lake Jackson; and Clarissa Koederitz and her husband, David, of Harvey, Louisiana. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren—Rebecca Ramos, Ricardo Ramos, Jr, Roberto Ramos, Regina Bell, Claudia Crenshaw, Ramon Ramos, Rodrigo Ramos, Olivia Simmons, David McGuire, Lita McGuire, Jessica Groth, Vanessa Koederitz, Cassandra Koederitz, and David Koederitz. Survivors also include nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Jesus Peralez of Brownsville and Jose Y. Peralez of Helotes; and her sister, Gloria Mercado of Fresno, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers—Alfred Valdez, Godofredo Peralez, Samuel Peralez; and five sisters—Minnie Moura, Consuelo Abrego, Esther Montoya, Juliana Espinoza, and Maria Rabeneck.

Cremation arrangements for Mrs. Castañeda will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Getsemani Iglesia Metodista Unida, 1901 Williams Avenue, Port Arthur, where she was a long-time member.
