Many people knew her as Yvonne or Mrs. Kolander. To me, she is always "Billy's Mom". When she spent the weekend at our home once, I told her that she raised one of the most kind hearted, gentlest and optimistic men I have ever known. After getting to know her, I saw how Billy inherited those traits. What greater legacy can there be for her time on earth than to have raised children who loved her immensely and who will continue to make her proud, while she watches over them from her well deserved place in heaven. We love you with hearts and souls, Billy and Emy.

Lisa Broussard

I was only around "Nanny" as she was so humbling referred to a couple of times. In that short period of time it did not take long to realize what a truly incredible women she was. and that her grandchildren loved and admired her. Cody, Lori, Christie, and the rest of the family, I am so very sorry for the tremendous void in your lives in the loss of this astonishing women.

I have told this story many times: when our family found out in 1969 that a family with five kids was moving across our mostly quiet street from us, we voiced the proverbial saying-Great, there goes the neighborhood! Well, we were wrong. Yvonne, James and those kids became part of our family and still are to this day. You couldn't ask for any better neighbors. Yvonne (Mrs. Kolander back then) put up with our teenage shenanigans with mostly calmness. We watched as she became teacher, administrator, school board member and then back to just plain Mrs. Kolander, although plain isn't the word for her. She was one of the most interesting people I knew. When I moved back into the family home after many years away, she became not only my neighbor again, but my friend. We used to talk about many diverse subjects including books, politics, UFO's and even out of body experiences. We used to sit on her back porch rocking and watching the beautiful sunsets. A light went out on Attaway Road Wednesday--the sun had finally set on a beautiful life. Yvonne will be missed fondly by so many, but with a legacy such as hers, it doesn't get much better than that.

Words cannot express our heart-felt condolences with the passing of your mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We lost an amazing soul with Ms. Yvonne’s passing. She was always such a positive person and was a pleasure to be around. Always ready with a warm meal, or a warm place to stay. There are so many memories of her when we were growing up. Her love for life, knowledge and family and friends was an inspiration to all. Rest in Peace Mrs. Kolander. Gone but never forgotten, always in our hearts.
