Barbara Ann Gauthier "Mimi"

January 31, 1946 - September 10, 2020

Barbara Ann Gauthier “Mimi”, 74, of Nederland, died Thursday, September 10, 2020. She was born on January 31, 1946, in Rayne, Louisiana, to Wilma Marie Peltier Trahan and Wilton Jean Trahan.

Barbara was an amazing wife, mother and Mimi. Her family was everything to her. She was married to her husband, James Gauthier, Sr. “Big Jim”, for fifty-five years until he passed in November of 2018. She had five children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling, holiday gatherings with her family, and anything that involved her children or grandchildren. She was active in her church teaching RCIA and CCD. She worked so hard her whole life taking care of her children, her mother, and her husband. It didn’t matter whatever anyone needed, she was always there ready to do more than what was needed of her, and she would do it with a full heart. She gave of herself to anyone in need, and she took so much joy in taking care of others. She was the heart and soul of her family who loved and admired her so very much.

Survivors include her children, Cherie F. Wheeler; James J. Gauthier, Jr and his wife, Julie; Sharon K. Kemp and her husband, Jason; and Crystal Varnado and her husband, Clint; grandchildren, Dale Ray Fontenot, Jr.; Christopher A. Fontenot; Sarah N. Fontenot; Jonathan C. Fontenot; Scott Wheeler; Brian Gauthier; Austin Gauthier; Kaylee E. Gates; Karley H. Willett; Lainie Varnado; Jessica Varnado; Jake Kemp and Jaycie Kemp; great-grandchildren, Brandon Fontenot; Alaina Wheeler; Evan Wheeler; Remy J. Gates; Elijah Fontenot; Kyndal Kemp; and Jillian Kemp.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Gauthier; daughter, Cheryl R. Fontenot; brother, Wilton Trahan, Jr.; and sister, Betty Roff.
