Betty Jane Saleme (Maw Maw Betty)
Betty Jane Saleme, 80, of Beaumont, passed Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth-Beaumont. She was born on November 4, 1940, to Nita Richard Mott and Elton Mott, in Nederland. Betty was a 1960 graduate of St. Anthony High School. She enjoyed cooking her gumbo and chocolate pie for her family. Betty was a very passionate, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her life and passion, and she enjoyed shopping at Kohl’s on a weekly basis for them. Betty also loved her scratch off tickets and spending time at Delta Downs.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Tommy Saleme; daughter, Sheila Saleme; and son, Anthony Saleme and his wife, Tara, all of Beaumont; granddaughter, Kaitlin Berwick and her husband, Colton; grandson, Taylor Saleme; great-grandchildren, Caden Berwick and Mia Berwick; nieces and nephews, Frances Richmond and her husband, Darrell; Chris Saleme and his wife, Carol, and their children; and Lisa Saleme and her daughter, Keira.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Alvin Mott.
A gathering of Mrs. Saleme’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1115 Orange Street, Beaumont. Her entombment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
