Charles Foxworth

June 12, 1933 - August 23, 2018

Charles Douglas “Buddy” Foxworth, 1933-2018.  He was a most beloved husband, father, brother, son, grandfather and friend.  He was born in Beaumont Texas on June 12, 1933 and was the middle child and only son of O.B and Katurah Foxworth.  He attended Beaumont High School, graduating in 1950 at age 16 so he could work full time. He didn’t plan on going to college until his grandfather gave him $100.  With that $100 and money he saved working summers, he attended Texas A&M University.  He was a member of the corps of cadets and the captain of the elite Ross Volunteers.  He graduated in 1955 with a degree in Architectural engineering and Tau Beta Pi.  Following graduation, he served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in France. He was water supply commander for Europe.  In 1957, he returned to Beaumont and served as a reserved commissioned officer until 1964.

In March of 1958, he married the former Martha Turner and they began a long and happy life together.  They had 3 children, Susan, Julie and Charlie, and he worked feverishly to ensure that his family was secure, and his kids would be provided with a paid college education.

He has always been a builder. He started building homes in the 1950’s with Galaxy Homes. In the 1960’s he started Galaxy Building Corporation which was instrumental in bringing metal buildings to Southeast Texas. When the economy turned, he did too, and his focus became Foxworth Real Estate Company. He faithfully served Southeast Texas through the years in different capacities of economic development, chambers of commerce, and The Rotary Club.

He was a man of many talents.  He spoke fluent French; he was a pilot; he sailed boats; he could repair, fix, install, rewire, or upgrade anything. He built 4 houses at the beach. He loved to fish.

He was an avid tennis player for years, enjoying a weekly men’s game—Tuesday nights with Ivan Barry, Tommy LeBlanc and Robert Robertson.  Later, he took up golf with Martha and they traveled the world playing some of the most prestigious courses in the world.  One of his proudest moments was when he shot 76 in 2006 to win the “Chokers” golf tournament at the Beaumont Country Club.

He was so very kind and smart and funny.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughters, Susan Foxworth Hamilton and her husband, Monty Hamilton and Julie Foxworth; son, Charlie Foxworth and his wife, Blair Chambliss Foxworth; sisters, Jenilyn Simon and Doris Brumfield; grandchildren, Charlie, Sam and Ben Hamilton and Jay and Sarah Foxworth.

A gathering of Mr. Foxworth’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 27, 2018, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nutrition & Services for Seniors, 4590 Concord Road, Beaumont, Texas 77703 or Some Other Place, P.O. Box 0843, Beaumont, Texas 77704.

Cremation arrangements will be under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium.

Buddy was always willing to listen and give advice. It was always good advice that did not seek to hurt anyone, but rather, to ensure everyone came out a winner. He was of the highest quality of a man. A man of integrity. He had a genuine, kind heart that was the love the bible speaks of. He was patient, kind, full of joy, and he was not boastful, nor envious. I am so blessed to have been able to get know him and to be able to have sat down and had conversations with him and just enjoy his company. I will miss him sorely, but rest easy knowing I will see him again. My prayers are with Martha, Charlie and the entire Foxworth family.
