Dalton William Horn

Dalton William Horn, 27, of Nome, died Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Whenever you think of Dalton, two dimples and a big smile pop into your mind. Dalton greeted all with a firm handshake and kind words. He was full of passion for not only animals but more importantly people. He enjoyed bringing light into other’s lives, whether he knew them or had just introduced himself. Dalton always knew how to make anyone smile, as he loved to be the center of attention, which started at a very young age. He was extremely mischievous, but those dimples could get him out of any spanking he found headed his way.

As soon as he learned to talk, he was making his way around a room introducing himself which kept his mother searching high and low for him. Dalton never knew a stranger and offered God’s precious gift of love to others through his smile.

Growing up, he was involved in many organizations. From church activities to acting with the Beaumont Community Players, soccer, baseball, shooting sports and so much more. Dalton’s love for agriculture began to bloom when he started 4-H with his siblings. Traveling around the state, showing livestock was his weekly family vacation, which created very cherished memories.  During his high school years, he became involved in FFA, where he served in many Chapter Officer roles, District President and Area Officer. He was awarded Star Greenhand and was a State Recognized Competitor for Livestock Judging, Forestry, Chapter Conducting-Parliamentary Procedure and Radio Broadcasting events, all while achieving Top Academic Recognition in his studies. One of his most admirable accomplishments, that only few achieve, was his Eagle Scout Award from Boy Scouts of America.

After high school, Dalton was accepted into Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets E-2 Mascot Company that took care of Reveille, A&M’s mascot. His desire to be involved didn’t slow down in college, as he joined numerous clubs including FLE- Freshman Leadership Experience. After obtaining his Bachelor’s in Animal Science, Dalton went on to pursue his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, as he had his sights set on Veterinarian school. While awaiting his acceptance into Vet School, Dalton came back to his hometown in Southeast Texas, where he thoroughly enjoyed serving his community in any way possible. From 1 am customer calls to pull a calf, to working as a Ringman at Horn Auction every first Saturday of the month, since his teen years, he loved the town and the people within it.

Dalton had recently received his acceptance into the first graduating class of the Texas Tech College of Veterinary Medicine and was planning to make his track up North this fall. The Dean called the Horn family this week to tell them about Dalton’s exceptional interview with the school, as he was ranked #4 out of over 700 applicants. The University will be memorializing Dalton by offering a scholarship in his honor to students that share his same passion and drive for years to come.

Survivors include his parents, Delana and William Horn; and brother, Royce Odus Horn, all of Nome; sister, Julia Horn Wellmann and her husband, Matthew, of Brenham; grandmother, Carolyn Irene Horn of Liberty; grandfather, Stuart Horn and his wife, Susan of China; and niece, Gentry Suzette Wellmann of Brenham.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Juanita and Wiley Lowe.

Gig’em Aggies & Wreck’em Tech, our vet is now home.

A gathering of Dalton’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 16, 2021, at Broussard’s. His cremation will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.

Our hearts are broken and at times we are still at a loss for words while trying to believe you are really gone from walking this earth with us. Many are grieving in our community and families for you and will for quite sometime to come. Knowing you are protected in Gods arms now is the only thing that brings any peace to mind. The sun will shine a little dimmer now without your smile lightning up the day and you will always be tremendously missed by us all.
I hope you find our sweet boy Nova and the rest of all our fur babies you helped care for till the end while you are up there waiting for the rest of us. Until we all meet again sweet friend.

Dalton went to HJ with our daughter Opal Hobson but we got to know Dalton from his work with Riceland Vet. He would stop by and visit with my husband occasionally and even text to see how things were going. He was just a nice, caring person that you enjoyed visiting with. He will surely be missed. Horn family, my heart is shattered for you and your loss. I can’t quite wrap my mind around it. What I remember the most about your precious son is his sweet smile and overflowing kindness. When I was adopted and the “new kid” at Sunday school, he was the first person to greet me with a handshake and a smile - what gentleman even at 8 years old! Your son was a friend to me in such a fragile time in my life and remained that way through the years. I’ll never forget how accepted and loved he made me feel. What a day it will be when we all get to be together again on that side of heaven. Between now and then, I am praying for peace that surpasses all understanding and that you would find treasures from the Lord is this great time of sadness. Love you all.

By all of the social postings about Dalton, it is obvious that he influenced many lives (human and animal). To watch Dalton from afar, one would think him untouchable but when he turned to you, you knew he was focused on how he could help you in whatever you were doing. We got the pleasure of knowing this great young man for the last few years. Kindness and respect are what I think of when he crosses my mind. His smile was infectious. His voice impersonations kept me laughing! Dalton was always happy., always cared for my animals the way I wanted. He was flat out an amazing human being. He will be sorely missed. It’s rough for those of us in mourning but God is blessed to have him home. See you again, friend.

Our hearts are full of sorrow. Words can not express the sadness we feel for your family. Dalton’s sunshiny disposition touched everyone he came into contact with. and will forever be in our hearts. Every time we were around him our spirits were lifted and he made us laugh. We miss him so much. May God bless you and comfort you.

OMG!!!~My heart is broken about like yours. We raise our children to be well-mannered Christians, and that is just what he practiced. He always had a big bear hug with that BEAUTIFUL smile, and so handsome. He loved my muffins, and I made sure he got some. Dalton was deeply loved by many and will be missed. Sweet Dalton go rest high on that mountain with your Angels. RIP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

I am devastated at hearing this. He was such an amazing young person. Smart and intelligent in so many ways. I trusted him 100% with my then 8 week old Australian Shepherd and he cared for him all through his puppy shots. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Horn family. God bless you.
