Daryl Wayne Bertrand, 79, of Beaumont, Texas, fought a valiant battle with prostate cancer with his wife Paula at his side every step of the way. He made his transition to Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, on May 31, 2021.

Daryl was born in Beaumont, Texas on the 31st of December 1941 to Helen Cole Bertrand and John Baptise Bertrand.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Paula, son Paul (Christine) of Beaumont, Texas, brother John Reagan Bertrand (Rebecca) of Woodville, Texas, sister Dolores Bertrand of Wimberley, Texas, sister-in-law Deborah Bertrand of Creal Springs, IL, and two beautiful granddaughters, Gabrielle and Phoebe Bertrand of Beaumont, Texas. Daryl was a graduate of South Park High School Class of 1960 and Lamar University, BBA-Marketing, leading to a lifelong career as a pharmaceutical representative for several major pharmaceutical companies.

Daryl and Paula loved traveling and visited all fifty states and had explored many of the major National Parks by car with Paul in tow. He had many hobbies that included mastering the baritone which led to a scholarship, was an avid photographer and competed in carving beautiful wood sculptures of birds.

Given the gift of gab Daryl never met a stranger and could actually “Talk to a Post.”

He was a fantastic Uncle! I’m so grateful to have such fond memories of him. And I also have this wooden name piece he made for me when I was just a very little girl. I’ve always loved it! He was so good at woodworking, truly impressive pieces. I loved seeing all his woodworking things he did and the smell his shed where he did it, with all that shaved wood. I just know my dad is hugging him and happy to see him again. Love you Uncle Daryl

Daryl, you and Paula were ALWAYS there for me. Through losing my son, Ryan and then losing my husband Jerry. My heart was shattered and I believed it would never heal. But there you were, cracking wise and making me smile and laugh in spite of my pain. I can't thank you enough for that. Paula's many hugs salved my wounds and I made it back. You have entered the finest of company now. Rest peacefully in the knowledge that we will all be walking with Paula, at her side and all around her until it is her time to come and join you. You are loved by many and I am only one, but you made a HUGE difference in my life and I won't forget that positive impact. This life won't be the same without you ~

Daryl was such a ray of sunshine at our morning breakfast talks after exercise class. His funny stories and insistence that he was kin to Rodney will be fond memories. Love and prayers to Paula and the Bertrand family.

I will miss a true friend. He would always stop by in his little red Mazda and we would talk about so many things. Especially he always wanted to fly in a GYRO Helicopter with Paula by his side. You will be missed. GOD BLESS

I was blessed to know Daryl for a few decades. We were good friends for a long time so it breaks my heart that we had not touched base in a few years. I (like many) admired Daryl's ability to deliver a positive attitude with a big smile with the people he interacted with every day. We should all strive to be as positive and likable as Daryl. My prayers are with Paula, Paul ("Paul Wayne") and the entire family. I know it is very tough losing a great man like Daryl. God Bless
