Elna Jean Hopper Berard

March 29, 1927 - October 19, 2020

Elna Jean Hopper was born March 29, 1927, in Crossett, Arkansas. She was the youngest of five children born to Mary Evelyn Earnest and Elmer Lee Hopper.

She was a graduate of Crossett High School. After high school, she spent several years with the telephone company as an operator. Jean was a free spirit and a pioneer for independent women, even before the women’s movement took place!

She traveled to live in several places, including London, England, Pensacola, Florida and finally settling in Beaumont, Texas. In fact, she remained independent until her last days; still cooking, cleaning and managing her home at the age of ninety-three! Even though Jean was not able to travel in her later years, she never lost her love for adventure and the excitement of a good football game-always loyal to her Arkansas Razorbacks and Dallas Cowboys. Yet her true joy remained in her Baptist faith and always supported Dr. Charles Stanley Ministries. We will miss her dearly♥

A graveside service for Mrs. Hopper will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2020, at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
