Gladys “Gee” Peterson

August 8, 1926 - January 31, 2019

Gladys “Gee” Peterson, 92, of Beaumont, died Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she was born to Edith and John Jordan. After obtaining special permission, Gladys became the first young woman to take mechanical drawing classes at John Marshall High School. Thereafter she became the first woman to work as a drafter for the Virginia Highway Department. After marrying Henry “Hal” Peterson, the couple lived in Wilmington, Delaware, and in 1961 the family relocated to Beaumont.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Hal and her brother, Edwin. Survivors include her daughter, Marsha Peterson of Lumberton; son, Mark Peterson of Houston; niece, Jean Daniels of Williamsburg, Virginia; cousin, Pat Brauer of Midlothian, Virginia; nephew, Marshall Peterson III of Hailey, Idaho; and her church family at North End Baptist Church, in Beaumont.

A gathering of Mrs. Peterson’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. with her memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Her children send special thanks and appreciation to all her family and friends as well as to the Ben and Julie Rogers Cancer Center and Harbor Hospice.

I had the privilege to know Ms.Gladys ,for a short time, what a Beautiful Lady inside and out that I’m sure that touch the heart of all that knew her, and will be missed. With deepest sympathy, prayers for the family.
