James “Snuffy” Taylor

October 19, 1932 - October 28, 2019

James “Snuffy” Ventura Taylor, 87, of Vidor, died Monday, October 28, 2019, at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born on October 19, 1932, to Gertrude Isgate Taylor and Thomas A. Taylor, Jr., in Port Arthur, and was a retired United States Army veteran. Snuffy retired from the maintenance department at DuPont Sabine River Works. He was an active member of the Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Taylor; daughter, Pamela O’Dowd and her husband, Michael, of Spring; step-daughter, Natalie Lockhart of Vidor; mother-in-law, Norma Harriman of Vidor; grandchildren, Molly O’Dowd, Bridget O’Dowd, and James Bothwell; great-grandchildren, Aislyn Bothwell and Soloman Bothwell; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and his fur babies, Carley, Tris, Ginger, Skeeter, Marmalade, Honey-bear, Moonbeam, Ariel, and Mandy.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Norsworthy Taylor; son, Michael A. Taylor; parents; grandson, Adam G. Bothwell; and siblings, Jessie Taylor, Harold Taylor, Fern Lippincott, Ruth Carnahan, Estelle Rogers, Irene Bagget, and Phyllis Ann Taylor.

A gathering of Mr. Taylor’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2955 South Major Drive, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
