Joe Anthony Martinez, Sr.

April 16, 1934 - July 12, 2017

Joe Anthony Martinez, Sr., 83, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was born on April 16, 1934, to Consuelo Cantu and Porfirio Martinez. Joe was a United States Army veteran and retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of employment.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Barboza and her husband, Flint; grandchildren, Julian Barboza, Kathryn Barboza, and Abby Barboza; sisters, Dolores “Lola” Hernandez and her husband, Richard; Terry Gonzales; and Ofelia Cook; brother, Porfirio Martinez; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Martinez; son, Joey Martinez; and siblings, Consuelo Gonzales, Hope Tejada, Faye Valdez, and Claude Martinez.

A gathering of Mr. Martinez’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Broussard’s. His graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park,4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.

so sorry for your loss. I remember Mr. Joe, he would come in the stores where I worked in a convenience store in Beaumont. He was such a character and always made us laugh. he will be sorely missed.. sending my thoughts and prayers.
