Bernard James Stott

September 20, 1935 - July 10, 2023

Bernard James Stott, 87, of Silsbee, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday, July 10, 2023.  He was born on September 20, 1935, in Jasper, to Grace McClanahan Stott and John Stott, Sr.

He had been a pastor from 1965 through 2011.  Bernard pastored at Magnolia Baptist Church of Ragley, Louisiana; First Baptist Church of Lecompte, Louisiana; Woodrow Baptist Church of Silsbee; West 14th Street Baptist Church of Houston; Mount Olivet Baptist Church of Fred; Friendship Baptist Church of Buna; and finally, back to Woodrow Baptist Church.

Bernard retired from full time ministry in 2011 and continued to supply at different churches until 2018.  He also worked for Gulf States Utilities/Entergy from 1955 until 1963 as a lineman, then returned to work from 1978 until 1997 when he retired as a lineman instructor.

Survivors include his wife, Culie Faye Avery Stott; children, David Stott and his wife, Gina, of Bryant, Arkansas; Jonathan Stott and his wife, Sheila, of Silsbee; and Richard Avery and his wife, Erica, of Spring; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Arth of Ohio.  He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Merle Stott; and brother, John Chester Stott.

A gathering of Mr. Stott’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Peach Tree Cemetery, Jasper.

    I never met the gentleman but one time he and his wife were at my mothers funeral. I have known Mrs Stott and Richard Avery for over 50 yrs my prayers are for the family. I’m sure he will be missed by so many.

    I had the distinct honor of serving with Bro. Stott for 14 wonderful years at Friendship Baptist Church in Buna. He was one of the most biblicaly knowledgeable, dedicated, compassionate and loving pastor that I have ever known! I’m going to miss you Bro Stott!
