Charlotte Haynie

April 2, 1944 - December 23, 2017

Charlotte Peters Haynie, passed away at her Houston home, Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Charlotte was born on April 2, 1944, to Margaret & Eber Peters, Jr. in Paris, TN.

Charlotte was a graduate of Beaumont High School and the University of Texas, Austin. She worked as a Computer Programmer for IBM and Champion Technology, Houston, TX.   Charlotte was a member of

Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Charlotte was a longtime member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Houston. She was an active volunteer in The Gathering, a St. John ministry, devoted to those with memory challenges. Charlotte served for thirty years on the board of Covenant House of Texas, Houston, a non-profit providing housing and opportunities for homeless teens. She was also active in Houston’s Bluebird Circle.

Charlotte loved to do needlepoint and made hundreds of Christmas ornaments showing her skill. She was a devoted member of The Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem. As a teen, Charlotte spent many fun summers at Camp Waldemar, Hunt, TX. She was thrilled that her niece, Jennifer, carried on that tradition at Waldemar. She was a member of the Comanche Tribe. Charlotte loved a party, especially during the holidays. She looked forward to the Peters’ Christmas Open House and was greatly missed this year.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas P. Haynie, III, MD; brother and wife, Joe and Geneva Peters, Beaumont; nephew and wife, Michael and Meredith Peters, Tulsa, OK; niece, Jennifer Peters, the Woodlands; great niece and nephew, Paige Peters and Gibson Peters, and extended family and friends. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents.

A gathering of Mrs. Haynie’s family and friends will be 3:00 p.m., with her memorial service at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her committal will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Garden of the Resurrection Columbarium, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, Houston.
