Mr Verde had a profound influence on my teenage years. I never walked into his house without him or Mrs Verde offering something to eat. His Italian sausage hooked me for life, but I’ve never found any as good. I hope his family can reflect on what a kind, generous and genuinely good patriarch he was to overcome their loss and grief.
