Daniel Dwaine Baker

October 21, 1935 - December 19, 2023

Daniel Dwaine Baker, 88, of Kountze, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023. He was born on October 21, 1935, in Covington County Alabama. He was raised by Huldah Claunch Baker and John D. Baker.

Mr. Baker served in the United State Army, owned J & B Foods in Kountze for over twenty years, and several drive-in grocery stores before serving as the maintenance supervisor at the Hardin County Courthouse for fifteen years.  He was a deacon most of his adult life at the Kountze Church of Christ.

Survivors include his children, Steve Baker and his wife, Michelle and Paul Baker and his wife, Tracy, all of Kountze; David Baker and his wife, Christi, of Dallas; John Baker and his wife, Jodie, of Kountze; and Amy Dial and her husband, Sam, of Call; grandchildren, Brandy, Justin, Jennifer, Mason, Aaron, Misty, Brandy, Brooke, Shay, Austin, Morgan, Madisonne, Cameran, Austin, Jayden, and Jacob; numerous great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jim “Buddy” Baker of Baycliff and John Terrell Baker and his wife, Felesa, of Rosenberg.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Erma Cozene Williams Baker and his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Baker’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Kountze Church of Christ, 1035 North Pine Street, Kountze. His graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Holland Cemetery, Kountze, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Mr. Baker’s memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Kountze Church of Christ, 1035 North Pine Street, Kountze.

    I worked with Mr. Baker at Hardin County. He was always friendly, helpful and the best maintenance director Hardin County has ever had. I am so sad to hear of his passing.
