Elizabeth “Beth” Garrett

December 7, 1934 - January 3, 2024

On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, Elizabeth “Beth” Garrett, of Nederland, Texas, passed away in her home at the age of 89. She was born on December 7, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas, the fourth of four children born to Avis Nadine Peters McAlpin and Mark Neal McAlpin, Sr.

While residing in Beaumont, Beth was heavily involved in civic activities, serving in various offices of the Beaumont Police Officers Wives Association and as president of the Beaumont City Council of PTA. Upon moving to the Dallas area, she and her husband owned and operated a catering company, but in retirement, she returned to her roots, the Beaumont area, Nederland, in order to be close to family members. Anyone who knew Beth knew of her tremendous love for her family, her dogs, and the Texas Rangers. She was a nurturer and provided unconditional love and support for her family. She and her husband, Don, worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their children and grandchildren and would boast proudly of each of them.

Survivors include her daughter, Caren (Dennis) Benge; stepdaughters, Maxine (Bob) Sherman, Cathy (Robert) Somers, Donette (Joe) Hughes; stepson, Billy (Janice) Garrett; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; sister; husband; and two sons, Gene Wilson, Jr. and Charles Wilson.

Mrs. Garrett’s cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. There will be a memorial/celebration of Beth’s life at a later date.
