Gloria Dean Gaar

Gloria Dean Gaar, 85, of Spring Branch, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017, surrounded by family at her daughter’s residence. She was born on April 18, 1932, in Lily, Louisiana, to Vera Poston and A. F. Elkins and was a residence of Kountze for over twenty years. She was an avid quilter and member of the Golden Triangle Quilt Guild and the Barns Bats. She loved to give her beautiful quilts away to family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Kim Elisabeth Shields and her husband, James Michael, of Spring Branch and David Barton Gaar, of La Porte; grandchildren, Justin Michael Shields and his wife, Taylor, of Canyon Lake; Cody Robert Shields and his wife, Lindsay, of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina; and Kristen Elisabeth Lang and her husband, Matt, of Austin; great-grandchildren, Jackson Murphy Shields, Emma Kyle Shields, and James Albert Shields; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; husband of sixty-one years, James Barton Gaar; brothers; Gary Elkins and Mark Elkins; and sister; Judy Watts.

A gathering of Mrs. Gaar’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., December 2, 2017, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her Interment to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
