Jack Leroy Stubblefield

January 3, 1956 - November 25, 2023

Jack Leroy Stubblefield, 67, of Silsbee, Texas, departed this life at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Beaumont, Texas.  He was born on January 3, 1956, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Ethel Ellis Stubblefield and Keith Robert Stubblefield.  Jack was a resident at Paradigm at the Pines Nursing Facility, Silsbee, before entering the hospital.

His high school years placed him the in Prescott band as a trumpet player then later he played football as a Right Guard and as the team’s kicker. He graduated from Prescott High School in Arizona, received electronics training thru ITT while in Houston, Texas and attended ITT College in Chester, Virginia where he received a Batchelor’s degree in project management. He attended church at Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church in Chester, Virginia before coming to Silsbee, Texas.

Jack enjoyed support to his local Arizona sheriff’s department in search and rescue. He was initially in a Radio Emergency Associated Communication Team (REACT) which later became the Prescott Search and Rescue. Jack was appointed the commander of his local search and rescue team and received training on locating downed aircraft signals from the “black box” also known as an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). He was certified as an aircraft direction finding team lead and in turn trained members of the local sheriff’s department, volunteers known as the “Jeep Posse”, and team mates on the technology and its use. He also received training from the sheriff’s department on preserving the crime scene and its associated forensic evidence.

He had a special love for working with his hands and for many years worked as an electronics engineer in Colorado, Texas and later in Virginia.  Jack’s initial career netted him work in the seismic testing field where he traveled across the south through Louisiana to Texas and north up to Michigan and Colorado. Jack also loved science and space. One of his favorite TV series was Star Trek. He also engaged in support to the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) by volunteering to participating in analytical research on his personal computer during off hours. SETI is a project of the Berkeley SETI Research Center to analyze radio signals, searching for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence. This program was implemented to do processing off campus for the Berkeley California University. They segmented out routines and installed them on remote PC’s when they did not have sufficient on campus computing power.

During Jack’s career with American Machine and Foundry or commonly known as AMF Bowling he taught himself how to operate Computer-aided design (CAD) programs. This led to his ability with his mechanical and existing electronics knowledge to redesign the dual alley cleaning equipment combining a ‘cleaner’ and an ‘oiler’ into a single unit. Thereby reducing equipment and making bowling alley maintenance more simplified. His CAD skills permitted him to design engineer components and parts on a computer. The new components and modified parts CAD drawings supported mass production operations at AMF bowling for this newly improved equipment.

Survivors include his sister, Jane Bulman and her husband, Scott; brothers, Richard and his wife, Mary, and Dale Stubblefield and his wife, Karen; and several nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Keith Stubblefield and wife of forty-one years, Wilma Stubblefield.

Jack’s memorial service will be held at a later date.  His committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.
