James Roland Handley

James Roland Handley, 84, of Nederland, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at his current residence.

He was born July 19, 1939, in Barnes, to Minnie Lee Handley and James Douglas Handley. He was a lifelong resident of Nederland, Texas. He was married to his wife, Carolyn Handley, for sixty-two years. He served for nine years in the Army National Guard. He retired from Neches Butane Products/Chevron Texaco Chemical after thirty-five years. He also served on the Jefferson County Water District #10 Board for 42 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and tending his garden. He also liked to build things in his shop.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Handley; daughter, Ginger Meaux and husband, Regan; daughter, Cheri Champagne and husband, Kevin; son, Todd Handley and wife, Terry; sister, Betty Ann Devries and husband, George; seven grandchildren, Krystal Collier, Kristina Bryan, Alyssa Edwards, Christopher Roach, Dylan Meaux, Emily Thompson, and Madelyn Meaux; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Minnie Jean Hanks.

A gathering of Mr. Handley’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his memorial service at 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2023, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
