Katherine Ann Bares, 88, of Beaumont, died peacefully at home on Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Ann was born on May 14, 1935, to Katherine and Turney Walker, and grew up in Beaumont and the surrounding area. She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1953 and went on to attend Lamar University where she studied commercial art and advertising.

She married Dan, her husband of 67 years, on August 3, 1957, and they started their family soon after. As their family grew, she was a stay-at-home Mom until all 5 of their children started school. Although she stayed very involved with their activities – PTA, CCD event coordinator, Blue Bird Mom, Team Chauffeur, Cheerleader sponsor, Photographer, Homework checker and Head chef – she also began working and building her career outside the home. She worked in many aspects of the home-building business, utilizing her many talents, from designing and decorating, to sales, management, and business owner for many years.

She was also very creative and loved to sketch, paint, sew, garden and write and tell stories – best known for her children’s stories, which she passed on to her many grandchildren, to whom she’ll always be “Granna”. Her love of gardening led her to become certified as a Texas Master Gardener after retirement, where she served in the community for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren whenever possible, spending time at the family lake house in Colmesneil, and her beloved annual beach weekends with her lifelong girlfriends.

She is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Katherine and Turney Walker; Aunt and Uncle, Velma and Hilly Caswell; sister, Sue Wells; and grandson-in-law, Sean Counterman. she is survived by her husband, Dan Bares, and their children, Mary Ann Boone and husband Paul; Lee Bares and wife Denise; Kate A. She is loved by many and will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Ann’s Life will be held in the coming weeks, as her greatest joy was having her family and loved ones all together, CELEBRATING LIFE – and she would want it no other way.

Special acknowledgements to Altus Hospice for their unyielding support, Montebello Home Care, and to her loving husband and family who cared for her through her illness.

I remember Ann, from the time I would go to Balboa Company on Laurel near downtown Beaumont circa 1976. She was so full of life and a pleasure to visit with. She helped select a fireplace and other things for the first home I built. She was a stand out in ever way. I remember her saying, “You can’t sale from an empty wagon”. A special lady for sure.
