Milton H. Basye, Sr.

June 13, 1933 - October 26, 2017

Milton H. Basye, Sr., went home to the Lord on Thursday, October 26 at 7:02 a.m. Milton was born in McAllen, Texas on June 13, 1933, the fifth child of Melvin Leslie Basye and Edris Askew Basye. He grew up in the Houston area before moving to Lake Charles, Louisiana where he attended McNeese State University and met the love of his life, Arline Louise Sarver Basye.

Milton and Arline were married in 1956. Shortly after, Milton was drafted into the army and stationed in Germany for two years where he served his country with pride. After leaving the military, he returned to Lake Charles and began working in retail. In 1962, Milton moved his family to Winnie, Texas where he worked as the Manager of Perry Brothers for 33 years. He and his family moved to Hamshire, TX in 1964 where he was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Hamshire. Milton was an avid fisherman and hunter and shared a love of the outdoors with his family throughout his life.

Milton was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Milton is survived by one older sister, Verna Basye McIllwain of Tyler, TX. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Arline Basye and his four children, Ronda Lane Basye Brandon, Milton Hugh Basye Jr., Randal Leslie Basye, and Ricky Lee Basye. He was adored and respected by his daughter’s in-law, fourteen grandchildren and seven great grand-children. Milton was also a supportive, surrogate father figure to many other “sons and daughters” during his lifetime. He loved well and was well loved.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Edris Basye, sisters Dorothy Basye, Bertha Basye Jones, and brother Melvin L. Basye Jr.

Milton’s life will be honored this weekend at the First Baptist Church of Hamshire, 25304 SH 124. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the church with interment to follow in Winne at Fairview cemetery. Services are under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.

The family wants to acknowledge and honor the steadfast love and support the church family has provided to Milton and his family over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamshire, P.O. Box 369, Hamshire, Texas 77622.

Mrs Basye, I just want you to know I am thinking of you at this time. My kids remember going to Perrys with Grandma Kiker. My mom thought so much of Mr. Basye and shopped at Perrys. often. I am glad I got to see you all at our 50th reunion. Love, Kathy Kiker Settle
