Misti Shanell Smith

Misti Shanell Key Smith, 44, of Warren, peacefully passed on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on January 24, 1979, in Silsbee, to Janice Simmons Key and Robert Edward Key, Sr.

She spent her younger years in Silsbee but graduated from Kountze High School.  She later moved to Warren with her husband and raised three children.  She worked for Warren Independent School District for several years before moving on to work for a law office in Woodville.

Misti was a warrior princess who courageously battled cancer for over two years before she finally succumbed to the disease.  Before she had her own battle with cancer, she was an angel who helped her late husband through his battle with cancer.  During all of this she remained a loving, awesome mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend to many.

She loved reading and spending time with her family.  Her greatest joy was her three children, Seth, Christi, Jesse, and her fiancé, Thomas, who never left her side during this battle.

Misti touched so many lives during her short time on this earth and was a true blessing to everyone who knew her.

Survivors include her mother, Janice Thompson and her husband, Donald, of Kountze; children, Seth Smith and his girlfriend, Emma Cullen; Christi Smith; Jesse Smith, and his girlfriend, DeeDee, all of Warren; fiancé, Thomas Schwartz of Warren; siblings, Tammy Simmons and her husband, Bobby; Christi Key and her husband, Russell; Genny Pelt and her husband, Dolton; and Robert Key, Jr., all of Silsbee; brother-in-law, Donnie Pelt of Warren; numerous nieces and nephews; her late husband, Scot Smith’s family; and Thomas Schwartz’s family.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Scot Smith; father, Robert Key, Sr.; and brother, Justin Thompson.

Misti’s memorial service will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Happy Valley Baptist Church, 3435 Highway 418 West, Kountze.  Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee.
