Nelmer Whisenant

November 27, 1915 - June 27, 2018

Nelmer B. Whisenant, 102, of Fred, crossed over Jordan and waltzed through the Pearly Gates, June 27, 2018. She was born on November 27, 1915, in Silsbee, to Ida Watts Gilmore and John Henry Gilmore.

Nelmer graduated from Fred High School in 1933. She married John Whisenant and they resided in Fred. She attended Lamar College, where she received a Dental Assistant Certification. She worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. W.C. McNeil for twelve years. She then worked for Evans Products as a particle board grader until she retired.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ward and her husband, James and Linda Whisenant, all of Fred; grandchildren, Gary Ward and his wife, Lisa, and Paula Young; great-grandchildren, Aaron Ward; Beth Slaydon and her husband, Tyler; Zane Young; and Jessica LeFloor, all of Silsbee; brother, Leston Gilmore of Wharton; sister, Betty Vandiver and her husband, Bill, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her Pentecostal Lighthouse Church family; and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Whisenant; brothers, Charlie Gilmore, James E. Gilmore, and G.B. Gilmore; and grandson-in-law, Charles “Chick” Young.

A gathering of Nelmer’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, 6038 FM 92, Silsbee, under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee. Her interment will follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, Fred.
