Peggy Johnson

October 13, 1931 - December 21, 2017

Peggy Ann Johnson, 86, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, died Thursday, December 21, 2017. She was born on October 13, 1931, in San Antonio, to Ella Mae Walter Reed and Wesley John Reed. Peggy lived in Beaumont for 45 years, was a retired social worker for the Texas Department of Human Resources, and was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beaumont.

She is survived by her children, Karen Ellsworth and her husband, Jim; Susan Hughes and her husband, Brady; John Bergeron and his wife, Jerre; Lauren Chance and her husband, Edward; Ellen Bergeron; Bryan Bergeron; and Hurtis Johnson and his wife, Lynda; numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Peggy loved her family and we will miss our mother and Granny. She was a loyal and loving friend.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Hurtis Johnson; parents, Wesley and Ella Mae Reed; brother, Wesley Reed; and sister, Nancy Reed.

A gathering of Mrs. Johnson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2017, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

A special thank you to Brighton Bridge Hospice for their compassion and dedicated staff, and as well as her caregivers at Grand Cove Nursing Home.
