Phero Nguyen Van Ai

December 25, 1952 - July 8, 2023

Phero Nguyen Van Ai of Beaumont, TX passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the age of 70 years old.

Nguyen Van Ai was born on December 25, 1952.  His father Nguyen Van Quynh and mother Nguyen Thi Tieu moved from Xuan Hoa, Vietnam to Tam Toa, Vietnam where Ai was born.  He was the fourth child of seven children.  After he was born, they moved to Da Nang, Vietnam where he explored his life as a toddler.  In 1955, Ai’s family moved to Long Huong, Vietnam where he lived for the rest of his childhood.  In 1975, as a young adult, Ai and his family came to America to settle in Beaumont which would be their permanent home.

Growing up in Beaumont he made many friends through his work, family, community, and church.  Through family and friends, he met his wife, LeHa.  After courting her, taking her to the bowling alley, and enjoying movies at the drive-in theater, Ai married LeHa on December 30, 1978 at the local church in Port Arthur, TX.

Ai and LeHa immediately started their family which started out with two boys and two girls.  Thinking their life was complete with their four children, God had blessed them with two more handsome sons.  Through their six children his family would continue to grow to include five spouses and 13 grandchildren with one on the way.

Ai Nguyen enjoyed the outdoors which included camping, fishing and crabbing.  Everlasting memories were made during the weekend camping trips with family and friends.  During the camping trips they would do fun activities such as swimming, fishing, campfires, and lots of s’mores.  Fishing and crabbing were an activity that Ai especially loved to do.  When going with his wife on these excursions he would make new friends and see old family and friends.  No one was a stranger because everyone was either a family or a friend.  If he wasn’t out fishing or crabbing you can find him volunteering with the church where he was loved by everyone in the Catholic community.  He enjoyed helping at the Winnie Rice Festival and events held at the church hall.  After moving out to a home with more land he expanded his ranch where he spent time caring for his goats, chickens, pigs, ducks, rabbits, dogs and quails.  He also built with his wife a garden full of vegetables and herb which were given to family and friends.  He has touched so many lives and has created a family that included everyone he meets.

Ai will reunite in heaven with his father, Nguyen Van Quynh; mother, Nguyen Thi Tieu; older sister, Hue; and older brother, Hung.

Ai will be forever loved and missed by his surviving family; wife, LeHa; son, Hung and wife Thanh; daughter, Hang and husband Phuoc; daughter, Hoai and husband Giang; son, Hai and wife Hue; son, Hoan; son, Huy and wife Angie; eight granddaughters; five grandsons and one future grandson.

He will truly be missed by everyone.

A Rosary for Mr. Nguyen will be recited at 6:00 p.m., with a gathering of family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023, and Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Prayer will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a Mass of the Dead to be celebrated at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1115 Orange Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with his interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
