Ruth Cope Chamberlain

October 14, 1925 - October 10, 2023

Ruth Cope Chamberlain, 97, of Pearland, formerly of Beaumont, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at The Reserve at Pearland, Pearland. She was born October 14, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Rose Thibodeaux Cope and Eugene Cope.

Ruth was an amazing seamstress and cook. She often gave cooking instructions to her children and her grandchildren over the phone. Ruth grew up in China, Texas, where she claimed to be the fastest runner in town and was on the winning high school basketball team. She loved her family and prayed and worried about them daily. Ruth never made a quick decision in her life, but when she met her husband of seventy-three years, she married him six months later.

She traveled to all fifty states in a motorhome with Will. Ruth loved playing ball and gave every grandchild a ball on their first birthday. Because she could always be called upon to give medical advice from her medical and prescription books, her family called her “Dr. Ruth”.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Karen Holcomb and her husband, Haden, of Weatherford; Rose Mary Guidry and her husband, Michael, of Alvin; sisters, Louise McDonald of Lumberton and Gladys Ainsworth of China; grandchildren, Kristen Pilkington and her husband, Jeff, of Willow Park; Justin Holcomb of New York City, New York; Amanda McKay and her husband, Mike, of Pearland; Janet Alcayaga and her husband, Eduardo, of Pearland; Brian Guidry and his wife, Brook, of Athens; Michelle Baker and her husband, Jared, of Aubrey; great-grandchildren, Greyson Pilkington, Ashley, Haley and Emily McKay, Gabriella and Isaac Alcayaga, Izabella and Brantley Guidry, and Charlotte Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-three years, Wilfred Chamberlain; sister, Audrey Bracewell; brothers, Eugene (Buddy) Cope, Nolan Cope, and Dalton Cope.

A gathering of Mrs. Chamberlain’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2023, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 245 US-90, China, with her interment to follow at China Cemetery, China.
