Sandra Lynn Elizabeth Gomez

December 6, 1982 - October 8, 2020

Sandra Lynn Elizabeth Gomez, 37, of Beaumont, entered the kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on December 6, 1982, in Beaumont, Texas.

Sandra was born to Maria Montiel and Olegario Alfaro Jr. and was raised by her mom and Papi Martin Montiel. She attended West Brook Senior High School where she met and fell in love with Zotero Gomez, whom she later married on June 28, 2003. Upon graduating high school, she began her career in Criminal Justice, a career that spanned over 13 years with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in various capacities from Correctional Officer to Sergeant.

At the age of 36 she reached her lifelong goal of becoming a Deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Enduring the Sheriff Academy was a huge sacrifice that Sandra met with unmatched optimism and perseverance. From having to climb a 6-foot wall, wrestle a Marine, getting tased and pepper sprayed in the face, Sandra never gave up. She knew she was just where she needed to be. The friends she made at the academy became her family. Family that never left her side. Once she began her employment as a Deputy, her colleagues quickly formed those same family bonds. Bonds that remain unbreakable.

Sandra and Zotero have three wonderful children. Nevaeh, 14, Nalani, 12, and Adan, 4. They are her pride and joy and the force behind pursuing her goals and dreams. Sandra and Zotero could not have been more proud of their kids. Nevaeh is smart and athletic, and Sandra loved cheering her on at volleyball games, band concerts, track meets and all of her many academic accomplishments. Sandra and Nae Nae loved laughing and cutting up together while getting their hair and nails done and shopping the mall for the latest trends. Nalani was Sandra’s inspiration after walking with her daughter and facing many medical issues. It is their faith in God that helped Sandra and Zotero push through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Sandra used her voice to advocate on Nalani’s behalf with the ultimate goal of giving her daughter the quality of life that she deserves. Adan entered with a bang! He kept Sandra and Zotero on their toes as the baby boy of the house. He has his momma wrapped around his tiny finger and every day he managed to bring laughter and lightheartedness to their family.

Sandra is a beautiful person both inside and out, who could light up an entire room with her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. Sandra touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with in the most positive way. Her family and friends will remember her as a loving, loyal, and compassionate person. Those who know and love her will miss her here on earth but will carry her in a special place in their hearts forever.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her husband, Zotero Gomez; children, Nevaeh N. Gomez, Nalani N. Gomez, and Adan N. Gomez, all of Beaumont; parents, Maria and Martin Montiel, Olegario C. Alfaro, Jr.; grandparents, Micaela Garza and Selarina Adan Montiel; siblings, Carmen Lopez Vega and her husband Oziel; O.C. Alfaro III and his wife, Sonia; and Alexus I. Montiel and her boyfriend, Armando Acosta; nieces and nephews, Miranda M. Alfaro, Bailey B. Alfaro, Madyson J. Vega, Jaxson N-O.C. Alfaro, and Gavin O. Vega; goddaughter, Emily C. Padilla; and her best friend, Ashley Nelson.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jose A. Garza, Olegario C. Alfaro, Sr., Delores Alfaro Lozano, and Tomas Montiel.

A gathering of Mrs. Gomez’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at St. Anthony Cathedral, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the 100 Club of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 3405, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or to The ARC of Greater Beaumont, 4330 Westridge Lane, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

Sandra was a great person, with a contagious smile. She always had the kind of smile that made you wonder what she was up to next. During our times spent with Sandra, she was always the life of the party. She had a laugh that I will always remember. She had a heart of gold, and was so tenderhearted. We are so proud of your accomplishments while you were with us. You worked hard to go through the police academy and became an awesome police officer. You made your family proud. Early morning, 04/19/20, Sandra Gomez, was assigned B-Shift Patrol for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. She was starting her new career with a group of grumpy old men that were really in need of a spark. We embraced Gomez as our little sister and immediately started operating as her big brothers. As for me,, I was her first line Supervisor, Sgt. Gilder. We jelled instantly as we both accepted our roles in this operation. Gomez took pride in her role as a Deputy Sheriff as # 132. She had the utmost respect for the department and her team of grumpy men. She was a delight and we are surely going to miss her. Enforcement Angels are required in heaven as well as on earth. Heaven has claimed a fine one in Gomez. Rest Well !!

I just got word of Gomez ; here in Houston. I worked at the same unit with her @ Henley State Jail; but on 2nd shift. She was always full of energy and just made you laugh. She was truly a wonderful person to have known. Being in shock of this news . No words can make her family feel any better. May Gods Angel's enjoy her and the laughter she gives to others.
