Alva Hamilton

February 28, 1924 - January 28, 2020

Alva Jewel Hamilton, 95, of Groves, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Gulf Health Care Center, Port Arthur, after a short illness. She was born on February 28, 1924, in Port Arthur, to Florence Prejean Alleman and Thomas “Tomy” Edward Alleman. Alva was the youngest of six and grew up in Port Arthur. She moved to the mid-county area as an adult. Later in her and Conrad’s marriage, they moved back to Groves. At the time of Alva’s death, she had resided in Fannett for twelve years.

When Alva and her husband both retired from Neches-Butane Company, they moved to the Toledo Bend area. While she was there, she finally had the time to take care of pot plants, cook for friends and family, and learn to sew. She became a meticulous seamstress at an age at which few people want to learn anything new. Actually, everything she did was done carefully, skillfully, and perfectly. Alva was never seen with a hair out of place. Anytime you visited her, she was glad to see you and the house was immaculate. Yet, she never appeared rushed, tired, flustered, or overwhelmed. She was always calm and serene.

Alva was truly amazing. Even though she did not have children of her own, she had many nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren to call her “Aunt Alva”.

Survivors include her niece, Jeannine Brown and her husband, Paul DeWayne; and nephew, Vance Person and his wife, Rebecca “Becky”.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad Hamilton; brothers, Edward, Leonard, and Albert Alleman; and sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Lubowski and Winnie Person Foret.

A gathering of Mrs. Hamilton’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

In her later years she enjoyed having pets. She liked both dogs and cats.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704.

Everything said is true. She was a lady. I remember visiting at their apartment in Groves, and later at their home on Toledo Bend Lake. We visited her a few times in Groves and Fannet. So sorry to learn of her passing.

I worked shift with Alva and Vernon Coody, who just passed. So many wonderful people at the Neches Butane lab. They have all given me memories of fun and good times. Alva was such a pleasant and beautiful person.
