Ann Ohmstede

September 12, 1927 - January 31, 2018

Ann Ohmstede passed away on January 31, 2018 in Austin, Texas.

Ann Louise Lauderdale Ohmstede was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 12, 1927 to R.D. Lauderdale and Roxie Altman Lauderdale.

Ann graduated from South Park High school in 1945 and went on to earn a Bachelors degree in English with honors from Louisiana State University in 1948, where she was a member of Phi Gamma chapter of Chi Omega sorority.

Ann taught school in Beaumont before marrying Bob Ohmstede in March of 1950. She was married to Bob for 53 years before his death in 2003.

After living in Beaumont for 82 years, Ann moved to Austin in 2009.

Ann is survived by her two daughters, Carol Koshkin and her husband Jack of Beaumont and Jill Wentworth and her husband Mike of Telluride, Colorado, and her son, John Ohmstede and his wife Lynne, of Austin.

She is also survived by grandsons, Keith Koshkin and his wife Kathryn of Dallas, Craig Koshkin and his wife Abby of Houston, Travis Wentworth and his wife Aga of Berlin, Germany, and granddaughter Hilary Wentworth of New York City.   She is also survived by three great-grandchildren; Sam, Vivienne, and Connor Koshkin.

Ann is also survived by her younger brother, Dr. Bob Lauderdale of Richardson, TX.

Ann will be remembered by her family and friends for her sharp intelligence and wit, which made her more often than not the life of the party. Her generosity to her family, friends and charitable institutions – particularly in Beaumont – will be missed.

Ann loved entertaining; hosting many wonderful parties over the years. She also enjoyed playing tennis with family and friends and later became a very strong duplicate bridge player.

She lived a long, full, and rewarding life, leaving her mark on everyone she met, whether on her many travels around the U.S. and Europe, or in Beaumont, Lake Conroe, and Telluride, Colorado, where she and Bob had homes that they loved to share with friends and family.

Many thanks to the lovely staff at the Querencia Barton Creek and the caretakers of Halcyon Home Care who helped make Ann’s last few years more pleasurable.

Ann’s life was celebrated and remembered yesterday at a small grave-side service attended by family members at Forest Lawn in Beaumont. Funeral services were provided by Broussard’s.
