Betty Norman

April 5, 1949 - February 8, 2018

Betty Lou Geldmeier Norman passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas. She was 68 years old.

Betty was born and raised in Riesel, Texas, the youngest of her parents’ three children. She graduated in 1967 from Riesel High School where she performed with the marching band as a Majorette and was her class Salutatorian. That same year, she met Charles Norman, and the two were rarely apart over the course of the next fifty years. After high school, Betty attended McLennan County College. She and Charles were married in 1969.

After their marriage, Betty and Charles settled in Garland, Texas, where their son, Jason, was born in 1972. Shortly after Jason’s birth, Charles and Betty moved to Vidor, Texas and founded Norman’s Incorporated. Betty was a dedicated and loving mother and supported various organizations that her son was involved with, such as the Vidor High School Choir Booster Club. She enjoyed and was very gifted at sewing and gardening, and she often gave hand sewn gifts to family and friends.

For forty-five years, Betty served as President and Chief Financial Officer of the company she and Charles started, which grew to include the businesses of Norman’s Shoes, Norman’s Men’s Fashions, and George Wilson’s.

After her son’s marriage in 2000, Betty and Charles moved once again, this time to Beaumont, Texas. In Beaumont, Betty became involved with local charities that provided services for and found home for stray animals. She was a warm and loving person who made those around her feel like they were part of her family, whether they were neighbors or work associates. Betty was a thirty-five-year member of the First United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by her husband, Charles Norman; her son, Jason Norman and his wife, Kesha; her three grandchildren, Anna Norman, Lily Norman, and Jay Norman; her brother, William “Pete” Geldmeier, of Houston; her sisters-in-law, Sally Norman, of Mansfield; and Betty Ruth Norman, of Beaumont; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Enid Geldmeier; her father, William Lawrence Geldmeier; her sister, Davida Geldmeier; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A gathering of Mrs. Norman’s family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until her funeral service at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 12, 2018, at Riesel Cemetery, Highway 6 South, in Riesel.

So sorry for your loss, Charlie & Jason and family. Betty will be sorely missed. We wish you peace and comfort in knowing Betty is now in a better place in her heavenly home, with our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Friedeck family

Our hearts are broken for you Charlie, and for your family. Betty was a tiny woman, but she loved big. Those of us who loved her felt that love in her very presence. Jason, you were the center of her universe until those grandchildren came along. Anna, Lily and Jay, I know you know there was nothing your grandmother would not do for you if you asked. She loved you beyond measure. Cling to that love and carry her in your heart. She will always be a part of you. She will be greatly missed, but always celebrated for the lasting legacy of love she leaves behind..
