Carol Pullen

January 1, 1941 - January 18, 2020

Carol Ann Miller Pullen was born on January 1, 1941, to Robert Frank Miller and Mae McKneely in Kirbyville.

Carol attended school in Harlingen and Kirbyville. She married Wayne Pullen on August 18, 1956, and they have been married for sixty-three years. Carol worked in banking and mortgage banking as she followed her husband around Texas and Louisiana while he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Her life was her bible, her music, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carol met her husband in late April 1956 at a café’ in Kirbyville. In May she moved with her mother to Beaumont and in July, her mother decided to move to Houston with Carol and a brother and sister. Wayne was determined not to let her leave. He was working in a shipyard in Port Arthur at the time and made a proposal to her mother. He promised her that if she would allow Carol to stay behind, he would by two plates, two forks, two spoons, and two knives and they would get married. Since she was only fifteen years old, he took her and her mother to the courthouse in Beaumont for her mother to sign her consent. Wayne and Carol were married on August 18, 1956, in a church in Stowell. Wayne often told people that they changed each other’s diapers the first six months they were married.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Pullen; children, Douglas Pullen and his wife, DeRisa, of Wildwood; Kevin Pullen and his wife, Tammy, of The Woodlands; and Cyndi Patterson and her husband, Tom, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Jason Pullen and his wife, Janice; Justin Pullen and his wife, Cassie; Josh Pullen and his wife, Courtney; Jake Pullen and his wife, Hope; Ashley Droddy and her husband, Jake; Jennifer Harughty and her husband, Lee; and Jessica Munselle and her husband, James; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Petrash and her husband, Jim, of Waller; and brother, Robert Miller and his wife, Ann, of Homosassa Springs, Florida. Praying for this very special family. May God continue to bless you during this new season of life without Carol. We know she is celebrating now and has no more pain. We that are left behind are the ones that are hurting. God bless each of you.

So my old Sergeant here I am at another of what has become all too frequent times when I am remembering old friends & trying to think of what or something to say. I’ve known you & Ms. Carol almost 50 years; you were my first real Sergeant, you & Ms. Carol were at my mom & dad’s house when I got married, you rode with me, checked driver licenses with me and have always been someone I have respected & admired. I’m sorry you and your sweetheart are apart but there will be a reunion. God bless you & I pray for courage & comfort & strength for all of you on this new journey!
