Davey Eugene Smith

Davey Eugene Smith, 76, of Kountze, died Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was born on March 26, 1948, in Port Arthur, to Gloria Pinell Smith and Claude Dawson Smith, Sr.

Davey was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.  He had many hobbies over his life. In his younger years he enjoyed traveling, painting, and photography. Davey enjoyed writing adventure stories where his daughter was the main character.

Gardening was a big part of Davey’s life, and he was a member of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners.  In his free time, he spent many hours woodworking and building cannons. He also loved playing the harmonica for his family. He was a beloved father and a beloved Gpaw, he will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelsey Smith Swearingen and her husband, Christopher, of Kountze; granddaughter, Kyleigh Swearingen; brother, Robbie Smith of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Claude “Sonny” Smith, Jr.; and sister, Susan Smith Alexander.

Mr. Smith’s cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
