Dr. O.R. Allred
Dr. O.R. (Rudy) Allred, 91, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024. He was born to Eliza and Nellie Cowart Allred on September 1, 1932, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He grew up in Groves, Texas, graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School.
Rudy came to Beaumont in 1957 after graduating from the University of Texas Dental School-Houston. He practiced dentistry there from 1957 until 1998. He was always active in the Southeast Texas Dental Society where he served as President and Past President. He was involved with many other dental associations as well, becoming a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentist and Fellowship in the American College of Dentistry. In 1986 he was voted the Dentist of the Year. Additionally, he served on the staff of St Elizabeth Hospital for over 45 years.
Rudy also served the community through the Lions Club of North Beaumont as President and Deputy District Governor. He was also active in in the First Baptist Church of Beaumont, later joining Westgate Memorial Baptist Church in Beaumont and Ebenezer Methodist Church in McCall Creek Mississippi.
Rudy’s greatest service was to his family. He enjoyed outdoor activities with the family such as camping, backpacking, scuba diving, hunting and fishing. Many times, at 5 o’clock on a Friday, Rudy had some adventure lined up for the kids. He was able to hike the Grand Canyon, dive Florida and Cozumel, as well as fish from Alaska to Brazil. Later in life, he and his wife Martha, enjoyed touring the United States and shopping for antiques. He instilled the importance of the power of education, loyalty, honor, and responsibility in his 4 children and had a great sense of pride at how they all had such success in life.
Rudy was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Martha Cupit Allred and his parents Eliza and Nellie. He is survived by his 4 children, Gerald and Debbie Allred of Dallas, Jim and Jane Allred of Houston, Dr. Terri and Bobby German of Beaumont and Dr Cheryl and Steve Nelson of Lumberton. Rudy had great pride in his 10 grandchildren, Chris and Matt Allred, Jacob, Andrew and Melanie Allred, Van and Zack German, Emily Nicotre, Taz and Luke Nelson as well as 3 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Methodist Church, 4596 Bogue Chitto Road Southeast, McCall Creek, Mississippi 39647, or Westgate Memorial Baptist Church, 6220 Westgate, Beaumont, Texas 77706.
A gathering of Dr. Allred’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. An additional gathering will begin 1:00 p.m. with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 4596 Bogue Chitto Road Southeast, McCall Creek, Mississippi. His interment will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery, McCall Creek.

Gerald, I am so sorry that I missed the gathering on Thursday. We are out of town. All of you were in my thoughts and prayers that evening.
Your parents were always sweet to this crazy teenager tearing up and down Continental Lane. I guess I prepared them for what they would have in store. Wishing you peace and comfort.

My heartfelt condolences to Geral, Jimmy, Terry, Chery, their spouses , children and grandchildren. Rudy Allred an awesome person. A friend for 60 years. i witness Rudy being a great husband, father and friend and later a great grandfather. Rudy did everything right as his obituary mentioned. I had the privilege of hiking Grand Canyon with him and his family members. Rudy and I enjoyed a few fishing trips. It has been a very long and enjoyable relations with him and Martha. I will miss a longtime friend.

Gerald is married to my sister Debbie. My husband and I live in New York but we were lucky enough to have met Rudy a number of times over the years at family gatherings. What a special man who so loved his family. He was so easy to talk to and we enjoyed our conversations with him. May he rest in peace with his beloved Martha.

Dr. Allred was a family friend and my dentist for 20 years. My mom found out she was pregnant with me while she was working for him which shocked everyone. 😊 I have so many great childhood memories of spending time at the office and with your family. He was a wonderful husband, father, dentist and friend! He will be missed by so many. I am thinking of you all and wishing you peace and great memories.
Dr. Allred was my dentist for 40 years. He was a superb dentist and a wonderful gentleman.
