Edna Lavelle “Pickie” Corbello

May 17, 1932 - August 18, 2023

Edna Lavelle Corbello, 91, passed away in her home on Friday, August 18, 2023. She was born on May 17, 1932, to Roby Mae Rogers Cornwall and John Arthur Cornwall, and was the youngest of four daughters: Margaret “Titi,” Sylvia “Sissy,” and Minta “Bitsy.” Edna was affectionately known as “Pickie” by her loving husband, sisters, and close friends.

Edna grew up in Beaumont and proudly spoke of her time playing the bugle in the Blue Battalion Bugle and Drum Corps at St. Anthony’s High School. She married the love of her life, Melvin Coy Corbello, on July 20, 1951. Their loving union created ten children, six girls and four boys, twenty-one grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Edna and her sisters made it a point to raise their children together, and Aunt Pickie thought of her nieces and nephews as her own children. She was a pharmacy technician at St. Elizabeth Hospital for twenty-five years and made great friends during her time there. She was a devout Catholic and long-standing parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she was very active as a member of the St. Pius Ladies and a Eucharistic Minister, and regularly participated in Adoration and the Rosary. Edna also volunteered countless hours at Some Other Place, a local non-profit organization that serves those in need. Her home was always filled with love, hugs with her chin in your shoulder, and laughter. She loved going to the beach cabin with her family, searching for seashells while walking down the beach, spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going on road trips with her daughters, and visiting with her sons. Edna had a heart of gold, the patience of a saint, and said to always keep the Lord first and all else will follow.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and adoring husband of 67 years, Melvin Corbello. Survivors include their ten children: daughter, Brenda Strader and her husband, Sam, of Beaumont; son, Kent Corbello and his wife, Vicky, of Kountze; son, Douglas Corbello of Beaumont; daughter, Monica Mireles and her husband, Tony, of China; daughter, Melissa LaRocca and her husband, Marc, of Montgomery; daughter, Alice Doup and her husband, Kelly, of Mount Vernon, Ohio; son, Martin Corbello and his partner, Waverly Humphrey, of Galveston; daughter, Madonna Barry and her husband, Andy, of Beaumont; son, Andy Corbello and his partner, Vicky, of Mauriceville; and daughter, Amanda Boutwell and her husband, Randy, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Beverly Mireles James and her husband, Jay; Brooke Bayless and her husband, Todd; Carissa Parr and her husband, Rob; Emily Sears and her husband, Walter; Coy Corbello and his wife, Laurie; Eric Corbello and his wife, Maryann; Alicia Orosco and her husband, JB; Lauren LaRocca and her husband, Jesse; Allison LaRocca and her husband, Dominic; Rachel Cox and her husband, T.C.; Michael Corbello and his wife, Ashlyn; Brandon Corbello; Brian Corbello; Amy Corbello; Jessica Rogers and her husband, Ross; Katie Boyer and her husband, William; Amanda Calvert and her husband, Matthew; Kayla Dugas and her husband, Bryant; Desiree Thomas and her husband, Will; Russell Doup and his fiancé, Moriah; and Kyle Boutwell; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sheri Hargraves of Winnie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Alicia Horn, NP, for all the care she provided to our beloved mother and grandmother.

To the Corbello Family. I want to express my sympathy in the loss of your mother. She was a beautiful, kind, and gracious woman. Anytime I saw her around town, she took the time to visit and ask about The Rush Family. I know you will all miss her. Peace be with your family.

I have such fond memories growing up and playing at y’all’s house and in the woods. Your mom was such a sweet and gentle soul. Find peace in knowing that heaven has received an angel and we are all so much richer for having known her. Lifting up prayers for your family.

My Mother, my Momma, my Mommy….my life will forever be changed. Thank you for teaching us how to love by example. What an honor and a pleasure to have been able to spend so much time with you over last few years. I can only hope that I am as good of a mother to my girl’s as you were to me.
You were an awesome mother/grandma/aunt and friend. You loved deeply and gave all. We will forever miss you. You were our foundation that kept us grounded. You always said, “put Jesus first in all things”. Life without you will be difficult….It’s time for us to pick-up the “torch” and continue your Legacy. I wasn’t quite ready for this, but am blessed to have had you as my mommy for 62 years . We will see you again someday. Until then, I know you’ll be watching over us, and give Daddy a big hug and kiss for me.

Pickie and my mother Pill were best of friends forever. We visited the family on Sundays. I remember fondly those years and being apart of all the sisters family’s. Pickie was such a sweet caring person to everyone she met. Her love for her family and friends was huge and I know all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be left with a huge part of them missing. Rest easy sweet Eden, Dolores will be so happy to see you again. What better place than heaven to continue your adventures.

I’m a dear friend of Lisa Boudreaux Ball! We worked together, lived together and Lisa was even one of my Bride Maids!! I remember Lisa talking of her Aunt Pickie and probably met her as well, though my memory fails me. I will be praying for Edna’s sweet rest and repose in the arms of our savior! With heart felt love to Lisa and all the family and friends!

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. What a great lady and wonderful family! I have so many fond memories of her. The mother of 10 children deserves a special place in heaven. Right next to Jesus!! We will be praying for the family during this time of grieving. It doesn’t matter how old they are when they pass— it always seems too soon! Gods blessing on all of you. Love, Sheryl and Benny
